Interesting Connection
The 1/4" twist drill bit could be the most commonly purchased bit that no one wants. Home DIY'ers purchase a drywall anchor kit because they want to hang stuff around the house. One of the most common kits comes with a 1/4" drill bit for convenience (ref:
https://www.bobvila.com/articles/best-drywall-anchors/) , possibly making that drill bit the most sold. Do people want the 1/4" drill bit?
No. They want to hang stuff that requires a hole in the wall to put the drywall anchor. But they need the drill bit to get the hole.
Do people really want to talk to a financial advisor?
Likely not...for many reasons - fear of feeling foolish, costing something they don't want to admit they can't afford, getting swindled, getting bad advice, insert yours HERE. What people want is to find savings and a strategy to prepare the future of a comfortable lifestyle during retirement years. Might even be to find a way to protect their assets and family against loss. What they seek is a strategy with concepts and tools from brands and services they recognize. As a licensed advisor, it's a fiduciary duty to provide the information and risks with any strategy that involves a client's money. Including their goals towards retirement and enjoying the fruits of their labour as early as possible. It is my goal to offer financial literacy as I go through the client discovery phase. I want them to become an active participant in their strategy towards financial independence. It's like having a plan to get healthy and access to a gym, but ineffective if you don't discipline yourself to actively participate.
What people want are the results: early retirement, financial independence, retirement lifestyle with little worry, and enjoying a prosperous life. What that requires are the steps in between: a clear and honest conversation with someone whose mission it is to advocate for them on where to find the tools and services, examining what they are doing at the moment, and being honest about if that course gets them what they want.
No up-front client fees, developing a clientele through referrals, and partnering with North America's top providers means this type of advisor works for you, not for the providers. The solution should be customized to each family, individual, or business owner's circumstances. Now - you have a "financial coach" if you understand that analogy.
If this makes sense, I challenge you to reach out and check the validity of your DIY plan. You may be surprised how close you are and all it takes is a little tweaking.
